Today was a busy day visiting a lot of different locations in northeast Arizona and southeast Utah. We started the day visiting Monument Valley again to experience the area with morning light. Additional Monument Valley photos will be added soon.
On our way northeast, we did stop along the road for the typical "Road to Monument Valley" shot.
After spending the morning in Monument Valley, we had lunch in the town of Mexican Hat, and drove by the rock formation that gave the town its name.
Next, we visited Goosenecks of the San Juan State Park, where the San Juan River has carved out meandering path 1,000 feet below
We drove up the Moki Dugway where Utah State Highway 261 climbs up a large mesa, driving up about 1000 feet over 5 or 6 miles on a mainly gravel road using switchbacks on the side of the mesa. Although we did not stop along the route to take a photo, a good view of the road can be found here. Once on top of this mesa, we drove south to the southern edge of the mesa to Mulley Point (or Muley Point), where we could see Monument Valley about 15 miles to the south, although the haze was obvious.
We came back down the Moki Dugway, then drove through "valley of the gods" which was described as a miniature Monument Valley with rock spires. We were very happy with some of the lighting that we had in this area with showers that formed nearby.
After sunset, we went to our great motel in Bluff UT and had some wonderful Navajo Pizza (with green chiles!) for dinner in Bluff.
